On the 8th November 2008 for the first time in the Clubs History, we had 8 Coaches, Players and a Parent complete the FAI Kick Start 1 Coaching Course in Inchicore Sports Centre.
The Course was jointly hosted by Terenure FC and Bushy Park Rangers.
The Course was delivered by the FAI Tutors, Jim Crawford, JJ Glynn and Declan Dunne.
The 8 who attended are already looking forward to completing the next stage which is the FAI Kick Start 2 in the New Year and some have expressed their desire to go onto further Coaching Courses in the coming years.

KICK START 1
- Introduction to Coaching Part 1
Aim: The course is designed to assist parents and coaches, to introduce children (aged 6-9 years) to fun soccer games and FUNdamental movement skills in a well-structured, stimulating and safe environment.

Objectives:
To provide coaches with the ability to:
Plan, organise and implement a coaching session.
Identify the stages in the development of young players at the FUNdamental phase aged between 6-9 years.
Coach children between the age of 6-9 years in a fun, safe and friendly environment.

Entry Requirements:
Kick Start 1 is the first part of a two-part Introduction to Coaching programme within the FAI’s Coach Education Scheme. The course is open to all interested parties, aged 16 and over, experienced or otherwise.

Duration/Format:
8 contact hours. There are practical aspects of the course, therefore please bring appropriate attire for both indoor and outdoor use.
Assessment:
No formal assessment required. Full attendance is compulsory to gain certification.
Certification:
Kick Start 1 coaches will receive an FAI Kick Start 1 certificate of attendance as part of the National Coaching Development Programme.
Course Fee and Development Manual (Fundamental Phase)
€45 per person

KICK START 2 – Introduction to Coaching Part 2
Aim: The course is designed to assist coaches in the development of the player’s (aged 9-12 years) soccer specific and FUNdamental movement skills in game related functions, progressing into small sided games.
Objectives:
To provide coaches with the ability to:

 Identify stages in the development of young players at the Learn to Train phase
 Plan, organise and implement coaching sessions.
 Adapt activities to develop soccer specific skills in players in the Learn to Train phase.
 Reinforce and progress the player’s soccer specific and FUNdamental movement’s skills in game related functions, progressing into small sided games
 Plan, implement and review sessions in a fun, safe and friendly environment.

Entry Requirements:
Course candidates will be Coaches with a Kick Start 1 Certificate.
Duration / Format:
17 contact hours.
There are practical aspects of the course, therefore please bring appropriate attire for both indoor and outdoor facilities.
Assessment:
No formal assessment required. Full attendance is compulsory to gain certification.
Certification:
Kick Start 2 coach will receive an FAI Kick Start 2 certificate of attendance as part of the National Coaching Development Programme.
Course Fee and Development Manual (Learn to Train Phase)
€ 75 per person

Youth Certificate – Level 1 Coaching Course
Aim: The course is designed to assist coaches in the development and consolidation of the player’s (aged 13-18 years) basic soccer skills with and emphasis on individual and positional specific skills, tactical and physical development as well as performance.

Objectives:
To provide coaches with the ability to:

 Identify stages in the development of young players at the Train to Train and the Train to Compete phase
 Plan, organise and implement linked coaching sessions
 Assist players consolidate and refine basic soccer skills
 Introduce tactical and positional skills as well as performance
 Introduce soccer specific conditioning and strength training
 Optimise fitness and soccer preparation for performance
 Plan, implement and review sessions in a fun, safe and friendly environment

Entry Requirements:
Course candidates will be Coaches with a Kick Start 2 Certificate, the FAI Introductory certificate or the FAI Level 1 certificate achieved between 1995 and 2004. It is recommended that a 3-month period should take place following completion of Kick Start 2 before attending the Youth Cert. Youth Certificate is part a Level 1 Coaching programme within the FAI’s Coach Education Scheme.
Duration/Format:
45 contact hours There are practical aspects of the course, therefore please bring appropriate attire.
Assessment:
Assessment is task based and continuous evaluation:
 A Log Book
 Final Evaluation

Full attendance is compulsory to gain certification.
Certification:
Youth Certificate coaches will receive the FAI Level One Youth Licence as part of the National Coaching Development Programme.
Course Fee and Development Manual (Fundamental Phase)
€300

Senior Intro
Aim: To introduce the coaches/managers to their role in coaching adult
players (17 years plus), and to assist them to prepare, plan and
implement functional practices and conditioned games for the 11 aside
game.


Objectives:

To provide coaches with the ability to:
  • Identify and develop coaching skills for the adult game.
  • Communicate / relate with and motivate the current Senior Grassroots Adult Player.
  • Introduce warm-ups, basic soccer specific conditioning and technical and tactical functional practises.
  • Apply appropriate training / coaching methods to progress players from the small-sided game to the 11 aside game.
  • Identify and apply principles of play in attack / defence and set-pieces.

Entry Requirements:
Course candidates will be Coaches or those with aspirations of
coaching Senior Grassroots football for Adults, with or without
coaching certificates.
Grassroots Senior Introductory is part of an Introduction to Coaching programme within the FAI’s Coach Education Scheme.

Duration/Format:
18 contact hours.
There are practical aspects of the course, therefore please bring appropriate attire for both indoor and outdoor facilities.

Assessment:
No formal assessment required. Full attendance is compulsory to gain certification.

Certification: A Grassroots Senior Introductory coach will receive an “FAI
Grassroots Senior Introductory” certificate as part of the National
Coaching Development Programme.
